Barron County is proud to announce that it will be participating in the 2025 Subaru Share the Love® Event as a member of Meals on Wheels America – one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From November 20, 2025, through January 2, 2026, Subaru of America will donate $300 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.
“This will be our sixth year participating in this national Share the Love event, and our program has benefited each year. Over the last five years, the Barron County Meals on Wheels program has received a total of $21,067.39 through the Share the Love events. These funds are put right back into the program to help cover expenses in food, gas, and supplies. The cost to serve meals to one senior for one year is $2,783.00. We serve an average of 300 participants throughout the year, so any extra funds will help sustain our program,” said Darby Smith, Nutrition and Transportation Manager.
Participating Meals on Wheels America members, like Barron County, will receive a share of the donation raised by Subaru retailers throughout Wisconsin. The closest Wisconsin Subaru dealership to Barron County is Morrie’s Eau Claire Subaru. This promotion brings awareness to our community about the importance of the program and is a way to reach new volunteers to help deliver the meals.
Over the last 17 years, Subaru and its retailers have helped deliver over 5 million meals and friendly visits to vulnerable seniors being served by local Meals on Wheels program. Thank you to Subaru and its retailers for their long-standing commitment to Meals on Wheels and the millions of seniors who depend on it for nourishment and companionship. By purchasing or leasing a new Subaru during the Subaru Share the Love Event and selecting Meals on Wheels as your charity of choice, you can help deliver nutritious meals and other important services to seniors right here in Barron County.

Daybreak provides services to individuals three days per week in two different locations, Barron and Rice Lake. Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in Barron on Mondays and Thursdays and Rice Lake on Tuesdays. Guests enrolled in the program can choose to attend from one to three times per week based on need interest. They receive five hours of fun, engaging activities which include social time, person-centered educational activities, music, arts and crafts, games, physical activity and more. Our trained staff and volunteers have developed a safe space where individuals living with memory and cognitive concerns feel welcome and at home with others who understand their challenges. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone thrives and no one feels alone. Individuals who are a good fit for the program are in the early stages of their disease and are physically independent.
Daybreak has openings now for new guests at both locations! If you are caring for or know someone living with a dementia diagnosis (Alzheimer’s, Lewy Body, Vascular, Frontotemporal, etc.), contact the ADRC Caregiver Specialist at 715-537-6225 or alisa.lammers@co.barron.wi.us to learn more. Darby Smith, Nutrition and Transportation Program Director, met on location to share the story behind the ADRC’s new kitchen. The space has been more than just a kitchen—it’s been the heart of our efforts to provide nutritious meals and meaningful support to older adults and adults with disabilities in our community.
From meal prep to delivery, the Barron kitchen helps ensure that no neighbor goes without a warm, healthy meal.
